# Amazon Importer 101: a dropshipping guide

Everything you need to know to start selling Amazon products on your Shopify store, from finding suppliers to fulfilling your first order.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Important — manual mode only.** Amazon Importer does not auto-fulfill orders. When a customer places an order, you need to purchase the product on Amazon yourself and enter the customer's shipping address manually.
{% endhint %}

### Understand Amazon Dropshipping

Dropshipping is a model where you sell products without holding inventory. You list Amazon products in your Shopify store, and when a customer orders, you buy from Amazon and ship directly to them.

<details>

<summary>Is dropshipping allowed by Amazon?</summary>

Yes, Amazon permits dropshipping if you follow their policies, which require you to:

* Be listed as the official seller on all packaging and invoices.
* Handle all customer returns yourself.

Refer to [Amazon's Dropshipping Policy](https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/external/201808410) for full details.

💡 Note: Prime benefits cannot be used for resale or customer shipping.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How do I find Amazon dropshipping suppliers?</summary>

The app doesn't provide a supplier directory. To find suppliers, you can:

* Search online supplier directories.
* Explore dedicated dropshipping platforms.
* Contact manufacturers directly

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I sell branded products from Amazon?</summary>

Selling branded products requires proper licensing. Make sure you're not violating copyright or trademark laws, you are responsible for ensuring compliance.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Will customers receive Amazon-branded packages?</summary>

It depends on the seller's fulfillment method:

* **Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA):** Packages typically have Amazon branding.
* **Merchant Fulfilled:** The seller may use their own or plain packaging.

Check individual listings on Amazon and contact sellers directly if custom packaging matters for your store.

The app shows a product preview with all variants. Choose **Active** to publish immediately, or **Draft** to edit first.You will see a product preview and can select whether to import it as Active or Draft.

<details>

<summary>Are there Shopify product variant limits?</summary>

Shopify stores have a limit of 50,000 product variants. If exceeded, you can only add 1,000 variants per day. For unlimited variants, upgrade to the Shopify Plus plan.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How are product images imported?</summary>

All photos for the main product are imported. For variants, only one photo per variant is imported. To resize images in your store, [check this Shopify guide](https://community.shopify.com/c/shopify-design/image-size-is-too-large-on-product-pages/td-p/1985473).

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens if a product is out of stock on Amazon?</summary>

**If the product is available on Amazon** (has a price, no out-of-stock notice): imported to Shopify with "Quantity tracking" disabled so it can be sold freely.

**If the product is unavailable** (no price or marked out of stock): imported at zero price with "Quantity tracking" enabled, and "Continue selling when out of stock" is disabled to prevent sales.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can the app import Amazon reviews?</summary>

Amazon Importer doesn't pull in product reviews. To display Amazon reviews on your store, use the separate [Amazon Reviews app by Reputon](https://apps.shopify.com/reputon-amazon-reviews).

</details>

### Set Up Markup Pricing

To make a profit on each sale, add a markup on top of the Amazon product price and shipping cost. You can set a **fixed amount** or a **percentage multiplier** in the app settings.

### Fulfill Orders Manually

When a customer places an order in your Shopify store, here's what you do:

1. **Receive the order in Shopify**\
   You'll get a notification and see the order in your Shopify admin with the customer's shipping address.
2. **Purchase the product on Amazon**\
   Go to Amazon, find the same product, and place the order using **your customer's shipping address**, not your own.
3. **Mark the order as fulfilled in Shopify**\
   Once the Amazon order is placed, go back to Shopify and mark the order as fulfilled. Add the tracking number when Amazon provides it.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Remember:** The app does not automate this process. Every order must be fulfilled manually, the app will not purchase products or submit shipping information on your behalf.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://reputon.gitbook.io/reputon-help/amazon-importer-app/faq/amazon-importer-101-a-dropshipping-guide.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
